And an E membership gives you access to all clubs, costing $500 per month on top of a $750 initiation fee.ĭuring the enrollment process, the scope of options left me a bit baffled - How was I supposed to choose to have access to a set of gyms that I've never been to? A destination membership allows you access to all clubs except for E clubs and costs $300 per month on top of a $500 initiation fee. An "All Access" membership costs $260 per month plus a $500 initiation fee and gives you a membership at all 29 regular locations in New York City and clubs nationally, but doesn't allow access to premium "E" clubs, Sports Clubs, or other special locations. Paying for a single gym can cost anywhere between $185 and $220 per month, typically with a $300 initiation fee, varying by gym and offers available. Read more: I immersed myself in Equinox's world of eucalyptus towels and infrared saunas to discover why people drop thousands of dollars on a gym membership If you want a cheap gym that is always dirty, and easy to convince yourself to skip, go to 24 hour fitness.Account icon An icon in the shape of a person's head and shoulders. If you are serious about improving yourself, Equinox is the answer. The other shining star at Equinox is the trainers, who are all consummate professionals, and can really take you to your next level of fitness, or help you achieve your goals.Įquinox is the perfect example of "You get what you pay for", and at Equinox you get a lot! Trust me on this, you will find your fit, your class, and your workout at Equinox. This is where the real value is, seeing as paying for classes at other gym's or facilities adds up to far more than your Equinox membership, especially if you go several times a week. A special shoutout belongs to Dana Sweeney who is hands down the best Yoga instructor I have ever encountered! They really excel at spin and Yoga classes. All of the classes are top notch, and the instructors are professionals. The facilities are great, but where equinox really shines is their class selection.Įach day there are typically 20ish classes a day, consisting, on average, of 3 Yoga Classes, 3 Spin classes, several running classes, and the rest being cardio, cardio-muscular, pilates etc. If a door breaks, it will be fixed by the time your workout is done, I've never seen a machine out of order, and even during the busiest of times, the locker rooms, and equipment are clean (as in, make grandma proud clean). Adjacent to the cardio area is a soft mat stretch area, and opposite the soft mat is the classic weight machines (most full motion).Įvery piece of equipment, space, etc is always clean, and in perfect working order. There is also a spattering of interesting cardio equipment such as climbers, "Road" runners, etc. The cardio side has a row of stationary bikes, a row of elliptical style machines, 3 rowing machines, a row of treadmills, and a row of stair steppers. The center of the weight area is an open floor for TRX strap exercises, and typically where people do dead lifts, and other olympic style power lifts. The weight floor essentially has 4 of everything, a wall of free weights, 5 bench press racks, a center cable machine with 8 places, 4-5 adjustable and fixed benches for free weights, a smith machine, and 2 squat racks. Surrounding this floor is the cycling room, another studio for cardio-muscle classes, the weight machines (in the corner next to the Cardio equipment), and the trainer stretch room. The downstairs consists of a split main floor, with cardio equipment on one side, and free-weights and cable machines on the other. Pool: The deck and pool area are fairly compact, (Half length pool maybe?), but actually a nice place to hang out during the summer, especially given the two small shades. Spa: No clue, (I'm a typical dude, and don't Spa much). The Yoga studio is stocked with everything you would need for classes: mats, straps, blocks, blankets, bolsters, small weights, etc. Upstairs: Consists of an average-size studio for Yoga, and other classes, the Spa, and the outdoor deck and pool. Personally, I always shower and get ready at Equinox, instead of at home, because the Club is so nice, and you emerge feeling strong! The club supplies Shave Soap, Razors, cotton swabs, and mouthwash. All of the Showers are private, tastefully tiled, and stocked with Kiehl's soaps (Oh So Good). Both Men and Women's locker room have a steam room (heavenly after a heavy workout). The locker rooms are clean, lit in a flattering light, and rarely very crowded. Seriously, tandem breast feeding is super cool, and white haired phantom-esque models are somewhat interesting, but really? Disclaimer: I am not employed by, or paid by, Equinox, but I am a happy member, so if you are looking for a Rage review, keep scrolling.Įquinox is a gym that tends to be mired in controversy, both because it is in fact the most expensive gym, and also because their ads are super weird.
